BCA South
The Wagner Free Institute of Science
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The Wagner Free Institute of Science is a National Historic Landmark, designed by John MacArthur and built in 1865. BCA is currently spearheading efforts to conserve the extensive plaster ceiling in the main exhibit hall, which dates from the 1880s. Conservation efforts have included collaborating with PennPraxis on the assessment of the plaster ceiling in 2007 as well as a current initiative funded by the Getty Foundation to develop a solution to stabilize the significantly cracked ceiling.
