BCA recently completed the survey of close to 100 mid-century Modern residences to provide a more complete study of Modern residences in New Canaan and serve as a national model for surveys of other mid-century houses in the United States.
BCA systematically documented the houses, placed them in a historic context, and assessed their architectural and historical significance. The study included a field survey using a custom-made form based in part from National Register Bulletin 24, historic research, the creation of a glossary of Modern architectural terms; and an assessment of the resources using the National Register of Historic Places Criteria for Evaluation.
The culmination of this project can be viewed online at www.preservationnation.org/modernhomesurvey.
