BCA New York
New Amsterdam Theater
New York, New York

The New Amsterdam theater was designed by Herts & Tallant and built in 1903. It is known as the home of the Ziegfield Follies and many other productions. The theater was repurposed from live performances to a movie house in 1937 and fell into disrepair after many years of neglect. The Disney Corporation leased the theater from the city and embarked on a monumental restoration. BCA was part of the team to uncover years of grime and destruction. The amount of intact finishes and decoration under years of overpaint are illustrated in the dramatic before and after photographs.
