Seaman's Bethel and Mariner's Home
New Bedford, Massachusetts
The Seaman's Bethel and the neighboring Mariner's Home are located in the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park. The Seaman's Bethel is a two-story, wood frame building, built in 1831. It was extensively rebuilt following a fire in 1867. The Mariner's Home is a three-story, wood frame, Georgian style residence, built in 1787 and moved to its present location in 1850.
BCA prepared the developmental history, including research of historic documents and images, field survey of existing historic building material and paint analysis, resulting in two Historic Structures Reports in accordance with National Park Service Guidelines.
